Description
Daniel Johnston’s status as a cult icon of US alternative music needs little introduction. This release simply marks the second pressing of Daniel Johnston At The BBC, a collection of official BBC radio sessions spanning eight years, now approved by Johnston’s family, management, and charity.
The sessions, recorded for BBC Radio 6 Music by Rob Da Bank and Marc Riley (both of whom serve as executive producers), have previously circulated as bootlegs. Now they’ve been properly mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios—a poignant detail given Johnston’s lifelong love of The Beatles. Those closest to him believe he would’ve been thrilled to see his work treated with such care above Studio 2.
This album aims to celebrate Johnston’s enduring musical legacy, focusing on the songs rather than the mythology. Profits will benefit the Hi, How Are You Project based in Austin, Texas, which promotes mental health awareness through the arts.
