Description
Just A Few Folk is JP Cooper’s third studio album, released via Island Records, and his most personal statement to date. Produced by Cam Blackwood and co-written with collaborators including Mr Hudson, Simon Aldred, Jamie Hartman, RØRY and Neil Ormandy, the record was recorded entirely to tape at London’s Toe Rag Studios, with musicians playing together in one room.
The songs draw on everyday experiences and close relationships, moving through themes of love, reflection and personal history. ‘Diamonds and Gold’ is a tender dedication to his wife, while ‘Sad Song’ reshapes heartache into something restorative. Elsewhere, ‘Waiting on a Blue Sky’ looks back to his upbringing in Middleton, Manchester, and ‘Summer of Love’ pairs warm, 70s-leaning soul grooves with Cooper’s unmistakable vocal delivery.
Free from commercial pressure, Cooper focused on instinct and feel, prioritising human connection over polish. The result is a set of songs that values warmth, honesty and shared space, capturing a moment of creative clarity and emotional openness.
