Releasing on May 8, 2026, Ranjha marks the long-awaited reunion of Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur, and the 21-piece Indian ensemble The Rajasthan Express. Serving as the sophisticated sequel to 2015’s Junun, the album shifts from the drafty, historic halls of a Rajasthani fort to the controlled intimacy of Greenwood’s Oxfordshire studio, resulting in a sound that is noticeably crisper and more intentionally sculpted. Produced by Sam Petts-Davies and featuring rhythmic contributions from The Smile’s Tom Skinner, the record masterfully balances Sufi devotional poetry with hypnotic Qawwali traditions and Greenwood’s avant-garde sensibilities. Across 11 tracks—including the brassy, soaring title single and the vibrant “Shemesh”—Ranjha functions as a bridge between cultures, shedding the “world music” tropes for a raw, physical experience that feels less like a polite exchange and more like a high-energy spiritual takeover.
